Financial Implications of a Leave of Absence
Due to the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OB3), which went into effect on July 1, 2026, taking a Leave of Absence (LOA) may have a significant impact on your eligibility for financial aid. As a result, you may need to rely on private loans and/or alternative funding sources to complete your program upon returning from an LOA.
Given these potential implications, we strongly encourage you to meet with a representative from the SOM Office of Enrollment Services and/or the UIW Office of Financial Assistance to discuss how an LOA may affect your specific financial situation.
By proceeding with this request, you acknowledge that you have either met with the SOM Office of Enrollment Services and/or the UIW Office of Financial Assistance, or that you understand the potential financial implications associated with taking a Leave of Absence.
